Space (Brain) <3 behind the movie

so i've been working on my BFA show piece (finish in early may)

i have been wanting to travel through space for some time know, and i figured my last two semesters as a student of an institution would be the perfect time. having unlimited resources (still under dads$$) , i'm letting nothing hold me back.

Part 1 /(((( the VHS)))))

i recently received a VHS camcorder for christmas. kick ass!

i collect vhs from thrift stores, the movies are cheaper and have a magical glittery feel.

i also discovered how to convert the vhs over to my computer ( mash up ensued).

and i want to build a spaceship. i had all these thins happening together , yet they all floated seperately.

i began (seriously) collecting old VHS tapes when my grandpa died this summer (09). my family and i were cleaning out his garage when i found some VHS tapes in a dusty n rusty ol boxx. i found a bunch of home videos // while i watched each of the 7 tapes > i felt like i was living a dream (lately i've been having extremely wild n wacky vivid dreams about seemingly everything. i'll discuss this after further meditation)

one really strange movie, shot before my bother and i were born, my mom and dad (now divorced) had just gotten married. early 80s and it was christmas and my grandpa had just bought a new camera (VHS?) and he was trying to light the shot. the camera was not registering light very well since everytime someone was to walk in front of the screen, their image would blur. an eerie thing to see a recently deceased relative(grandpa) disappearing before my eyes. He was ordering people around, 'move this light here, turn that light on.' > meanwhile presents were being opened! people seemed to be actin in a role of > father > daughter > mother > husband .

i also found a tape entitled "earthquake"... an amazing relic of my grandfathers life. seriously. i will cherish this tape forever. (i would love to exhibit it, somewhere)

in 1983 my grandfather lived in San Francisco when an earthquake hit. the tape is recorded straight from the tv to his VHS player. image and sound straight up, including the sounds of the clicks (the channel change) . its an amazing things to watch. starting off all fuzzy, and he's flipping through. suddenly a news channel comes on and is black and white, grainy and describing of what just happened. she's worried, yet ale to complete her job. then he flips around for a little it more, through interviews and cartoons, through commercials and infomercials. eventually more and more new channels begin popping up, since they are the only channels which ran LIVE , they had to use generators to get things running...

all this information, enclosed within once moment of channel surfing. spectacular.

however you cannot hear my grandpa , or know who he even in within the video. i am the only person alive who knows that he completed this, and he was the soul creator.
